Mountain Lion Spotted in Millbrae Country Club

The animal was spotted Tuesday morning.

San Mateo County officials issued an emergency alert Tuesday, to let the public know of a recent mountain lion sighting on a local driving range.

According to an alert from the SMC Office of Emergency Services, the mountain lion was spotted on the driving range of Green Hills Country Club at 500 Ludeman Lane in Millbrae, around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

"If you see a mountain lion DO NOT APPROACH IT, especially one that is feeding or with offspring," the alert states.  "Most mountain lions will try to avoid confrontation."

Here's more from the Office of Emergency Services:

  • Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active—dawn, dusk, and at night.
  • Keep a close watch on small children.
  • If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects.
  • Pick up small children.
