Morning Caltrain Accident Apparently a Suicide

A preliminary investigation suggests a man jumped onto the tracks early this morning in front of an oncoming train.

A man who was struck and killed by a train near the Hayward Park Caltrain station in San Mateo this morning appears to have committed suicide, a transit agency spokeswoman said.

The death remains under investigation, but preliminary information indicates that the victim had gone onto the tracks intentionally when he was struck by northbound train No. 215 at about 7:30 a.m., Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.
