Sounds like someone's attorney is doing some strong arm damage control! Don't worry, Doug, thoseRead Moretyp es will overstep and no attorney will be able to dig them out. (Leeland Yee, for example!)

If you don't vote, or rail against the "powers that be" who are allowing the city toRead Morecrumb le; then I'd say that is pretty idiotic! Your question alone, is not exactly the top of the food chain mentality!

Why isn't there an inquiry? Why don't "heads roll?" It seems that Millbrae is just aRead Morelittl e Mafia-type city! It's really sad that our city government has just become a place for those who run it, to make money and leave the welfare of the residents and the city to twist in the wind! What was the last good thing any of them did for us, or the city?

Wow! Your comments make a joke out of...YOU! Is THAT your name, or a pseudonym? You sound like aRead Moremor on Libertarian, who doesn't want any laws, or rules; just like a spoiled child! You don't care who gets hurt, or killed, as long as you can drive as fast as you please! You are probably someone who hits and runs! I'll bet you love your mommy, and still live with her and resent it! Don't you! Go away, you misogynist bully, and live where you don't have to be concerned about the rights of others, only YOUR OWN, you selfish bastard!

Would like to understand how this voting was approved by mail. Would like to know how this works.Read MoreSo , The city clerk of Millbrae sends out the voting and we send them back to the city clerk of Millbrae. So who counts the votes? the city of Millbrae. How is this overlooked to make sure all is counted and countered properly? How the city of Millbrae thinks that people haven't taken a hit with this economy and having the guts to do this just baffles me.
Doug Radtke March 27, 2014 at 10:27 PM
If anyone is not aware, the City Council has passed a resolution enabling all city property to vote Read More"YES" for the fire assessment. Stacking the vote a little bit? You bet. Check my article here on Patch.

Oh believe me. I will be there on April 27th. They are not going to vote on my money withoutRead Morehearing from me. Problem is you have a council that doesn't care that people are suffering enough. Instead on cutting back like we all have had to do, they want to just pass this on to us.

I just hope whoever is elected isn't bought or forced to go along with the " Good OldRead MoreBoy" system. Anyone who thinks this current and past city council is not sticking it to Millbrae knows nothing. I have owned my hiome in Millbrae for 15 years. I have seen my taxes go up $2000 with many rate increases that the people of Millbrae didn't have a say in. EXAMPLE: Here we are with people losing jobs and barely able to make ends meet. Then I read that South City Scavenger is getting increases during this horrific time and its approved by the council with no arguement. They should be lucky they weren't forced to cut back like everyone else but instead get to increase our rates. The service and value is crap. They suffered no lay offs but get an increase passed on to us. You think that was right? Good old boy system

I can't comment specifically on San Bruno's finances but they must be pursuing more grant revenueRead Moreor doing some joint projects. The CalTrain station is likely under the wing of the SamTrans special district. Bike roads and other miscellaneous are probably the jurisdiction of San Bruno. San Bruno has YouTube, Walmart offices, and other great employers. I see Bayhill shopping center gentrifying. Neighborhors seem to be improving since I last lived in San Bruno long ago. I see a lot of positive. Millbrae could be doing so much better - takes the right people.

If you go to Mountain View on any week night; it is packed with people! There are a variety ofRead Moreresta urants, some clubs, some bookstores and a few other shops. The only thing to do in Millbrae is go to Walgreens, Safeway, and the Post Office. Sometimes Kohl's is okay, but really nothing else. Millbrae isn't really a friendly place, and the way traffic is just allowed to use our streets as an extension of the freeway, with little traffic control, is a disgrace! It is sad to see the decline of a city, and the "powers that be" just sitting around and letting it happen, while collecting big salaries and benefits! It is nothing less than gross negligence, and dereliction of duty!

Doug, if "Concerned Citizen" is typical of the residents who voice complaints during theRead Moreo pen communication section of the city council meetings, then I can see why the result might be the silent treatment. When one is fond of using words like "moronic" and "idiotic", the audience will have the tendency to tune it out. It's always best when legitimate concerns are voiced by people who possess some emotional maturity.

Jasmine, you should know the last Millbrae School Board to my knowledge didn't even have a formalRead Moreel ection because people ran unopposed? If nobody cares enough to run or show up to vote, you're going to keep getting the same results every year. The Millbrae School Board has been talking about financial problems and raising a parcel tax since 2007. City Council actually doesn't have much reign over the Millbrae School District since they function as two separate governmental entities, but I have preached cooperation and sharing of resources between the two - deaf ears to be honest. Millbrae is one huge free for all political power struggle in which all of us are suffering. I went through outdoor education in 5th grade, and I think it would be an absolute disservice to rob the kids of what was one of my most memorable moments growing up in elementary school. My resources are spread very thin. My good colleague Ryan has been attending school board meetings and been in touch with the superintendent regarding our computer education programs we're hoping to launch. It's not always easy to break through the red tape, but if you want to change let's start today. Jasmine, you should run for school board and I'm not even joking. I will be happy to assist anyone in a formal election campaign for school board... sharing my knowledge, hopefully the voter base I helped inspire last election, and my time for anyone who is running on a campaign of transparency and improving the schools. That offer is out there, feel free to contact me at me @ dougradtke . com

In response to Jasmine's statement, "Parents are putting kids in all kinds of tutoring andRead Moreafte r school enrichment program to maintain the good score": I haven't had to put my children in tutoring or after school enrichment, and their scores are fantastic. I think this is because of the great teaching in the MESD. Please try to support the teachers. Do you donate to the MEF, or are you one of the parents who does nothing but complain? If your children are having trouble with learning, then you can arrange an IEP (Individualized Education Program) through the district.
