Tails Wag for Possible Millbrae Dog Park

A park may be built as early as this summer.

Millbrae dogs are jealous of their neighbors in Burlingame, San Bruno and most other cities in the Peninsula. Those dogs all have parks designated just for them – to play fetch, gossip about their owners and enjoy the freedom of being off-leash.

To appease their best friends, Millbrae residents are gathering donations to build a dog park. They will need about $300,000 to pay for grading, fences, water, maintenance, as well as insurance, which is a main contributor to the hefty price tag.

“We’ve been looking at a lot of sites in Millbrae, our preference is either Mills Estates or Meadows Park because they get very little usage and they’re flat,” said Jennifer Price, co-chair of the Friends of the Millbrae Dog Park, an all-volunteer group seeking to create a dog park.

The organization, spearheaded by Councilman Wayne Lee, was formed in 2008, and the project has regained steam after being sidetracked for financial reasons.

Friends of the Millbrae Dog Park will send out mailers to dog owners in Millbrae and surrounding cities asking for donations, and will likely hold fundraising events in May and June.

“Building the park by this summer would be very optimistic, but we’re hoping for the end of the year,” Lee said.

The park will become a dirty wasteland. The urine smell will make the area horrible People already let their dogs loose there and don't pick up the poop. Just walk the block around Meadows Park , dog owners let their dogs poop in the front of their neighbors houses and leave it..I don't feel that by having a chain link fence around the park will make the dog owners any more responsible to pick up after themselves. In other cities dog parks are not in residential areas. There must be some health code. The school is also close by. I have owned dogs for 40 years and I feel that this is a bad fit for the neighborhood. Please leave it as is and enforce the law to pick up after your dog.
