Construction to Spruce Up Millbrae Schools

Measure X bond construction will take place until Aug. 21.

All five of Millbrae’s School District’s schools will be getting makeovers this summer, with construction ranging from new roofs to wheelchair-accessible paths.

The construction, funded by the Measure X bond, began June 4 and will continue until Aug. 21.

Walls will be installed in some of Lomita Park’s classrooms, replacing partitions, said Paul Disario, interim chief business officer for the Millbrae School District.

Wireless internet access points will also be set up. “All the schools will be wireless after this summer is done,” Disario said.

With the exception of Lomita Park, all the schools will receive a new paint job, said Kristen McLean, project manager for Blach Construction.

Construction crews will replace the roofs at Taylor and Green Hills schools and upgrade fire alarms at all five schools and the district office, McLean said.

from Lomita Park this summer.

Construction will take place simultaneously at all sites, she said, adding that most of the noisier demolition work is already completed.

The construction times are as follows:

• Monday-Friday, 7:30am-6pm

• Saturdays, 8am-6pm

• Sundays, 9am-6pm

Construction will cost about $30 million between this summer and last, Disario said. There will be some smaller Measure X projects to complete next year, he said.

“There is definitely more to do, but at least this is a good start,” Disario said.
